Requirements
Linux Workstation
- Intel or AMD, single or multiple core, 32- or 64-bit processor based Linux workstation (Red Hat and Fedora Core recommended although sites have installed under a wide variety of Linux operating systems)
- 64-bit platforms require the installation of 32-bit compatibility libraries for your Linux operating system to run both the ECCE server and application software
- 1.0 GB RAM
- 300 MB free disk space for ECCE application software with additional disk space required during installation
- 100 MB free disk space for ECCE data and messaging server software with additional disk space required during installation (8+ GB free disk space recommended for storing user data dependent upon number of users and extent of usage.)
- Software
- Hardware OpenGL graphics card and driver software (note that 64-bit platforms require a 32-bit driver for ECCE) recommended with NVIDIA Quadro and ATI FireGL most extensively tested. ECCE bundles Mesa software OpenGL libraries if hardware OpenGL is not available--must be configured with an environment variable, see release notes
- Perl 5.x (included with recommended operating systems)
- Firefox or Mozilla web browser (included with recommended operating systems)
- KDE or GNOME window manager (included with recommended operating system, other window managers may also work)
NOTE: ECCE will run from a Microsoft Windows PC using an X Server program to connect to a Linux workstation. The X Server program must support OpenGL. Hummingbird Exceed 3D is our recommended X Server program for Windows PCs. StarNet X-Win32 and Cygwin have also been successfully used. A virtual machine distribution of ECCE is also available to run ECCE directly on a Windows PC or Mac OS X workstation using VMware software.
