At the bottom of most Ecce tool windows is a footer that displays status information. (To see an illustration, click on the button in the upper left corner of this Help window.) In many cases the footer also includes a drop site for receiving information that has been "dragged" from another tool. Depending on the tool and its current operations, some or all of the noted items may be present in the window footer.
A small colored shape at the top left of the window footer--a calculation
state icon--may be present if the current tool operates on a selected calculation.
Here and throughout Ecce, the color and shape of the icon are visual indicators
of the state of a calculation.

Tip: To bring the Gateway to the front when it is hidden by other windows, right-click on the message area in the footer and choose "Show Gateway" from the resulting pop-up menu. |
Tip: The background of the message area will blink momentarily when a warning or error is reported. Warnings will blink in pale yellow while errors will blink in red. |

A label at the top center of the window footer may be present to identify the operating context of the Ecce tool window: either the path name of the currently selected calculation or project, depending on the tool being used.
Ecce Tool | Label |
Basis Set Tool | current calculation in the tool (or none in Browse mode) |
Builder | current calculation in the builder (or none, if there is no calculation context) |
Calculation Editor | current calculation in the editor |
Calculation Manager | current project or calculation |
Calculation Viewer | current calculation in the viewer |
Job Launcher | current calculation in the launcher |

A star-shaped icon at the top right corner of the window footer indicates that
you have work to be saved in the current tool. To save your work, just click
on the star icon. The icon appears only when there is work to be saved.
A padlock icon at the top right corner of the window footer indicates that the
labeled item (such as a calculation) cannot be changed by you at the current
time. This may be because the item is not in a modifiable state (such as the
inputs of a completed calculation).
The square "in-tray" area in the lower right corner of some Ecce windows is
a dropsite--a destination for "drag & drop" operations. You can quickly
transfer selected information from another tool by using the middle mouse button
to drag a selected object (such as a calculation or chemical system) and drop
it on the drop site. The information actually transferred from the other tool
depends on what information is usable in the current tool. For example, you
can "drag" a calculation object from the Calculation Manager and "drop" it on
the drop site in the Builder, which then displays the chemical system associated
with that calculation.
